The Vacancy:

We are looking for a dedicated Housing Benefit Overpayment Debt Recovery Officer. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at efficiently recovering overpayments. Key responsibilities include:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Collection Targets: Contribute to achieving collection targets set by the client.
  • Procedural Adherence: Follow overpayment/payment procedures to meet client agreements.
  • Quality Standards: Maintain high-quality standards and meet internal benchmarks.
  • Productivity: Achieve internal productivity goals.
  • Team Objectives: Adhere to objectives set by the service team manager.
  • Support and Mentorship: Provide support and mentorship to overpayment administrators as needed.
  • Proactive Recovery: Engage in proactive recovery of overpayments through outbound calls, benefit attachments, referrals to debt collection agencies, and County Court recovery.
  • Debt Validation: Perform initial validation of debts.
  • Debt Maintenance: Maintain debts throughout the recovery cycle.
  • Communication: Liaise verbally and in writing with debtors, third parties, and internal departments.
  • Complex Correspondence: Respond to complex correspondence related to debts.
  • Payment Handling: Manage aspects of debt payments, including returned/missing BACS payments and issuing/cancelling payments.
  • Write-Off Recommendations: Make recommendations for debt write-offs.
  • Debtor Tracing: Trace absconded debtors.
  • Account Maintenance: Maintain the suspense account and invoices in credit.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Debt Recovery Experience: High-level experience in debt recovery.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of debt recovery regulations and processes.
  • IT Competency: Proficiency in using various debt recovery and document management IT systems.
