The Role
As General Counsel, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of the business. You will provide strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders, manage risk, ensure compliance, and lead on complex legal matters across a broad range of areas including commercial contracts, corporate finance, and dispute resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.
- Lead and manage complex legal transactions, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies across the business.
- Oversee Company Secretarial responsibilities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents and agreements.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and consultants.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Translate complex legal language into clear, actionable guidance for internal teams.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified UK solicitor with a minimum of 10 years PQE (other common law jurisdictions with QLTS eligibility will be considered).
- Strong background in corporate law, with expertise in corporate finance, dispute resolution, and commercial contracts.
- Experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team within a fast-paced business.
- Commercially minded with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
- High level of professional integrity, sound judgment, and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Likely to have spent circa 8 years in private practice before transitioning in-house.
