Role Overview

The Parent Support Advisor will act as a bridge between families and the learning environment, providing early intervention and guidance to help parents support their children’s education, behaviour, and emotional development. This role is essential in building strong, collaborative relationships with families and external agencies, and ensuring that every child is supported to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying and Addressing IssuesWork closely with centre staff, students, and families to identify challenges impacting a child’s attendance, engagement, or emotional well-being, and help develop practical, tailored solutions.
  • Offering Guidance and SupportProvide parents with information, advice, and emotional support around parenting techniques, managing behaviour, and improving family dynamics.
  • Enhancing Communication Between Home and CentreFacilitate open and productive communication between parents and Centre staff to ensure consistent support for students.
  • Supporting Student Well-beingWork one-on-one with students facing difficulties such as bullying, low self-esteem, family transitions, or emotional challenges, and signpost to further support where necessary.
  • Promoting Parental EngagementEncourage parents to become more actively involved in their child's learning journey and centre activities through workshops, events, and individual support.
  • Providing Confidential, Non-Judgmental SupportBe a trusted point of contact for parents, offering a safe and confidential space to discuss concerns.
  • Working with External ServicesLiaise with external agencies such as social services, Citizens Advice Bureau, Domestic Violence Forums, and others to provide comprehensive, wrap-around support for families.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a similar role involving family support, education welfare, or community outreach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitivity, empathy, and confidentiality.
  • Good understanding of child safeguarding procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, external agencies, and families.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation regarding education and family support.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
  • Relevant qualifications in family support, social work, education, or a related field.
