The key focus for the role is the people, project and resource management. The Head of Design Engineering must be a self-starter who can organise and motivate the team to oversee projects and allocate resource accordingly. You must have proven experience to deliver results through your team with the ability to delegate tasks and expedite delivery of solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages staff and assigns tasks to engineering personnel
- Implements and refines product development, testing, and manufacturing processes
- Responsible point of contact for internal and external auditors involved in the auditing of the design and development process
- Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines
- Oversees project requirements and resource allocation
- Manages resources needed for the Engineering Team to excel, including researching and proposing capital investments
- Creates and oversee project budgets and engages in cost management strategies
- Attends trade shows and conferences, and makes site visits to suppliers’ facilities
- Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success
- Communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Maintains high level expertise in their field or sector
- Collaborates with other team leaders and departments
- Forges and maintains relationships with suppliers and customers
Experience
Background in managing teams within an engineering focussed environment Customer-facing interactions
Developmental activities where project parameters can be subject to change Ability to prioritise schedules
Planning, managing and delivering design and development projects involving small to medium batch manufacturing of discrete and complex products and subcomponents
Knowledge
Project Management software tools such as Microsoft Project
A sound commercial and financial understanding
Aerospace Defence, Analytical or Scientific instrument manufacture or similar applications
Quality Standards: AS9100 (Aerospace), ISO9001 (QMS), ISO13485 (Medical Devices), TS16949 (Automotive), EASA Part 21 sub-part G (Production) and subpart J (Design) PFMEA and/or APQP
Qualifications
Degree, HNC/HND in Engineering or similar subject preferred
Chartered Engineer status
