About the Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Literacy Lead to join our team at a well-established Special School in Huddersfield. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with students who have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and complex needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
As the Literacy Lead, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing literacy programs that cater to the individual needs of our students, ensuring they receive the support required to enhance their reading, writing, and communication skills in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the literacy provision across the school, ensuring it is tailored to the needs of students with SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Develop and deliver individualised and group literacy interventions based on students' EHCPs.
- Work closely with class teachers and support staff to integrate literacy across the curriculum and ensure a cohesive approach to students' learning.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to teaching staff on best practices for supporting literacy development in students with SEMH needs.
- Monitor and assess students' progress, making data-driven adjustments to interventions as necessary.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages students to engage with and enjoy literacy.
- Establish strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students' literacy development.
What We Are Looking For:
- A qualified teacher with a strong background in literacy and special educational needs, particularly in SEMH settings.
- Experience in working with students who have an EHCP and a clear understanding of how to cater to their diverse learning needs.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support a team of staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.
- A passion for making a difference in the lives of students and providing them with the tools to succeed.
- Experience in designing and implementing effective literacy interventions.
