Reporting to: Managing Director

Starting Salary: £55-70,000

Location: Hybrid with some site travel and a minimum of one day per week head office based

The Role

Our client is a family run business based in Hull.  They provide bespoke solutions in pipework fabrication, installation and commissioning, structural steel fabrication, skid unit assembly, open tank fabrication, pressure vessel manufacture and engineering design predominantly to the Oil & Gas and refrigeration industries

Our client is currently seeking to appoint a contracts manager.

Role Requirements Overview

The successful candidate will have experience within managing and overseeing a project during the complete lifecycle of the work. This will include pricing of enquires, coordinating all project elements including development of budgets, plans, work schedules and other technical activities relating to the project. In addition, they will be required to attend site to ensure that work is being carried out in a timely manner.

Duties (not restricted to)

  • Interpret the client’s scope of works, to include our technical ability to deliver that scope, work up a costed solution and present it to the client.
  • Ensure that scope of works is delivered on time to budget and to scope / quality.
  • Ensure the project programme is delivered on site and any deviation from the agreed programme is identified and elevated to client
  • Ensure 1st line supervisors are clear on programme and budget and deliver those safely
  • Review and report on any issued contracts and lead negotiations to ensure favourable terms. 
  • Ensure all activities in the offices are undertaken in line with the company health and safety policy.
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in line with company Quality Management System.
  • Liaise with client’s client meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure that all contract monies are paid in full with written variations agreed and honoured. 
  • Assist operations manager in developing new business within new and established sectors.
  • Ensure client remains satisfied with the services offered and that any complaints are minimised or dealt with.

The Person Overview

  • The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background with extensive experience within pipefitting and welding, ideally within Oil, Gas or Refrigeration.
  • They will have experience in taking an enquiry, pricing the work, (getting client enquiries and drawings), often visiting site, and agreeing with the client a scope of the works.
  • Previous project management experience is required dealing with contracts of all sizes and duration from tens of thousands to a million plus 
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID and apply it to a building or layout.
  • Ability to plan and deliver pipework installs on large sites where pipe runs may not be fixed.
  • Able to work on their own initiative with a can-do attitude and a proactive approach to mitigate possible issues.  
  • Understand the need to work across many different areas of the project is vital as we are a small family run business who rely on our staff to work cross functionally to deliver for our clients.
  • Able to travel to sites throughout the UK on a regular basis.
  • Experienced in working with sub-contractors and managing them effectively to ensure positive return on investment
  • Strong interpersonal skills wither ability to speak with people at all levels.
