GSL Education are currently seeking a resilient and committed Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work within an Alternative Provision supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in behaviour support, youth work, care, or SEN settings who are passionate about helping young people re-engage with education.

About the Provision

The Alternative Provision supports pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The setting offers a structured, nurturing environment with a strong focus on behaviour management, emotional regulation, and positive relationships.

Behaviour Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with challenging behaviour on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities

  • Support pupils in managing emotions, routines, and transitions

  • Promote engagement, self-regulation, and positive social interactions

  • Follow EHCPs, behaviour plans, and safeguarding procedures

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

Behaviour Teaching Assistant Requirements
  • Experience working with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN, or in Alternative Provision

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour support

  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils

  • Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management strategies

  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply through GSL Education)
