We’re supporting a forward-thinking local authority to appoint a Financial Controller. This is a vital leadership role with responsibility for delivering the Council’s statutory accounts, overseeing capital and treasury activity, and maintaining robust financial controls across the organisation.
The key duties of this Financial Controller will be as follows:
- Lead and manage the Financial Control function, ensuring a high-quality, responsive service.
- Oversee financial reporting processes, including the production of the Council’s annual accounts.
- Act as the technical lead for accounting standards and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders and board members.
- Maintain strong financial controls and ensure the integrity of financial systems and reporting.
- Lead on capital and treasury management activities, including relevant planning and reporting.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with auditors and key internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the wider development and continuous improvement of the finance service.

The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified as an accountant (CCAB).
- A successful track record of delivering high-quality statutory accounts and leading year-end processes.
- Recent experience working in a local authority setting.
