Are you passionate about making a difference in a young person's life? Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Tutor to work 1:1 with a young learner in Hythe who is currently at risk of permanent exclusion (PEX). This is a rewarding opportunity to support a student transitioning into Year 8, who finds the classroom environment overwhelming and is showing signs of emotional dysregulation.



About the Role:

  • Location: Hythe (in-person)
  • Hours: 15 per week- Mornings/ afternoons- Monday to Friday (3 hours per day)
  • Start Date: September
  • Duration: Ongoing, with potential for long-term support


About the Student:

  • Transitioning into Year 8, currently working at Upper KS2 level in Maths and English
  • Struggles with spelling and grammar, but enjoys solving Maths problems with adult support
  • Finds meeting new people challenging and may be reluctant to engage initially
  • Loves football - a great way to build rapport!
  • Needs a calm, patient, and consistent adult to help build trust and confidence

As a Tutor you will:

    • Deliver engaging and tailored sessions in Maths and English, aligned with the student's current level (upper KS2)
    • Use creative and supportive strategies to encourage participation and emotional regulation
    • Build a trusting relationship through consistency, empathy, and shared interests
    • Work closely with the wider support team to monitor progress and adapt approaches

About you:

    • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or those at risk of exclusion
    • Strong understanding of KS2/KS3 curriculum, especially in Maths and English
    • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach
    • Ability to work independently and adapt to the student's evolving needs

Full time/part-time - Opportunities for both
Hours - 15 per week- can be undertaken alongside other tuition opportunities


Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

      • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL

To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:

  • Hold right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide references upon request
  • Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
