Elevation Recruitment Group are working exclusively with a specialist equipment manufacturer in Derbyshire to help them recruit an Acoustic Design Engineer.Our client is a successful engineering company specialising in the design and manufacture of enclosures and filtration systems for gas turbines and industrial equipment. With over 65 years of experience, the company delivers bespoke solutions that reduce noise, improve efficiency, and meet strict environmental standards for clients across the energy, industrial, and utility sectors.The Acoustic Design Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of bespoke acoustic solutions that meet client specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements. This role involves both independent and collaborative work to design, develop, and evaluate acoustic products, ensuring they meet technical requirements for performance and reliability. The position also requires regular interaction with customers and suppliers to support project delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.

Salary: £45,000-£50,000Days & Hours: 37.5 hours Monday – Friday 8.30-5.00pm

Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays

Pension: 6% contribution match from employer

Location: Ilkeston. Hybrid working – 1 day (Friday) 4 days in the office (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • To undertake the acoustic design of a broad range of bespoke products, ensuring alignment with client specifications, legislative requirements, and Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental (QHSE) standards.

  • To work independently or collaboratively to develop new or existing acoustic products that satisfy mechanical and technical requirements in terms of form, fit, and function.

  • To provide a professional acoustic engineering service to the business, engaging with customers and suppliers to ensure delivery of activities on time and to the expected quality and cost standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare acoustic calculations to support detailed design work, in accordance with applicable acoustic and vibration standards (e.g. BS EN ISO).

  • Carry out concept and detailed design using acoustic, dynamic, mechanical, and thermo-fluid principles to create optimal customer solutions.

  • Lead and contribute to acoustic research and development projects.

  • Conduct and take responsibility for site-based acoustic survey work.

  • Create design sketches to support the production of detailed design documentation.

  • Use engineering software tools effectively (e.g. Excel, Word, Mathcad, CAD, PDM, PLM).

  • Interpret and work with engineering drawings.

  • Produce clear, concise design sketches and technical reports suitable for internal and external customers.

  • Operate and maintain noise measurement equipment to assess product performance.

  • Interpret and apply acoustic engineering standards and specifications.

  • Continuously develop skills to meet evolving technical requirements.

  • Manage project timelines, meeting or exceeding deadlines.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • A degree in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related science-based subject from a recognised institution.

  • Significant experience in Acoustics and Noise Control

  • Membership of the Institute of Acoustics - desirable

  • Familiarity with current acoustic and vibration standards

  • Experience in designing fabrication details

  • Awareness of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations

  • Practical experience with hazard identification and risk reduction techniques
