Bookkeeper - Irvine£16.00 - £18.00 per hour | Immediate Start | Temp

We're recruiting on behalf of our client, a progressive construction firm based in Irvine, for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support the business during a period of transition.

With the current bookkeeper set to retire and a new team member joining in July, we're looking for someone who can confidently manage a handover period - learning from the outgoing bookkeeper and helping to onboard the new starter. This is a brilliant opportunity to step into a key role where your contribution will be genuinely valued.

You'll become the first point of contact for all finance-related matters and will work closely with colleagues across procurement, surveying, site operations, and senior leadership. If you're organised, proactive, and looking for a workplace where your skills make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

?? Working Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00-17:00
  • Friday: 8:00-12:30
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Office-based in Irvine, with some flexibility depending on the candidate

?? Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary contact for all finance-related queries
  • Manage the purchase ledger: processing and recording supplier invoices
  • Manage the sales ledger: issuing and recording customer invoices
  • Carry out daily bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Assist with payroll processing and HMRC submissions
  • Record pension contributions and manage petty cash
  • Book staff accommodation and manage expense claims
  • Handle incoming calls and assist with implementing a new phone system
  • Use Sage 50, Sage Payroll, and Eque2 Construct software
  • Liaise with external accountants to ensure accurate records and reporting
  • Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and Procurement team
  • Support general office administration and staff queries

? What We're Looking For:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A collaborative team player who is approachable and supportive
  • A proactive mindset - someone who looks for ways to improve processes
  • Experience in bookkeeping, ideally within the construction or related sectors
  • Proficiency with Sage 50 and Sage Payroll
  • Experience with construction software such as Eque2 Construct is advantageous

?? Company Culture:This is a supportive, down-to-earth office environment where people get on with the job and help each other out. There's minimal red tape and no micromanagement - just a shared commitment to doing things properly and growing together.
