Role Purpose:
The CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating CNC machinery with a primary focus on the recently installed CMZ TTL66 Twin Access Twin Spindle machine. The role involves working on a variety of small batch production runs, supporting the development of an apprentice engineer, and ensuring the operation and maintenance of older machinery on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, set, and operate the CMZ TTL66 Twin Access Twin Spindle machine.
- Train and mentor, an apprentice engineer, supporting their technical development.
- Learn to operate, maintain, and eventually train others on legacy CNC machines (30+ years old) currently overseen by a soon-to-retire colleague.
- Use SolidCam (within SolidWorks) for programming CNC jobs, prior experience advantageous.
- Conduct self-inspection and measurement of produced components using conventional tools and a CMM Measuring Machine (training provided if necessary).
- Manage frequent small batch production runs with varying customer specifications.
- Ensure work is completed to high quality standards, maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD data, and job specifications.
Key Requirements:
Essential:
- Proven experience in programming, setting, and operating CNC machinery.
- Hands-on experience with twin spindle, twin turret lathes (CMZ TTL66 or similar preferred).
- Good understanding of small batch, bespoke production processes.
- Competence in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- Strong measuring and inspection skills using a variety of tools.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and problem-solve effectively.
Desirable:
- Experience with SolidCam and SolidWorks software.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn operation of legacy CNC machinery.
- Previous experience in mentoring or supporting junior staff/apprentices.
- Familiarity with CMM Measuring Machines.
