About the Role

Join our facilities maintenance team as a Mechanical Maintenance Operative supporting a busy healthcare estate. You’ll be responsible for both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable mechanical building services. This role demands hands-on engineering support delivered with a professional and customer-focused mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems like DHW, LPHW, CHW, and ventilation systems.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and reactive maintenance needs.
  • Assist with minor installations, upgrades, and system adaptations.
  • Perform systematic fault-finding and safe repairs.
  • Safely operate access equipment, power and hand tools, and wear PPE as per guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate written or electronic records for all work performed.
  • Carry out risk assessments under direction and abide by health & safety and infection-control protocols.
  • Collaborate flexibly across trades and liaise with clinical areas to minimize disruption.
  • Complete job documentation and tasks within set timeframes.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (with extra pay).
  • Adhere to company’s safety standards.
  • Fulfill any additional duties relevant to the role and perform Authorised Person (AP) responsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Services or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in maintenance environments — ideally with exposure to DHW, LPHW, CHW, ventilation, pipe fitting; steam systems preferred.
  • Strong fault-finding, proactive mindset, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
