Our high-profile Energy client are looking for a Project Manager to join their team,working within the Strategy & Policy PMO to manage projects undertaken by the directorate. This includes supporting various teams, such as Energy Policy, Strategic Futures, Chief Economist, Energy Insights and Analysis, and Corporate Strategy!

Projects would entail manging responses to statutory requests made by the government or Ofgem, strategic projects initiated by the directorate that look at complex topic areas across the business (Hydrogen, Flexibility, etc.), activities undertaken by Corporate Strategy, and potentially others in the future.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Where teams use an Agile approach, collaborate with teams to define project scope, goals, and deliverables. Facilitate Agile activities such as stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews. Manage the supporting documentation for each project.
  • Where teams use a more classic Waterfall approach, lead creation of project plan; establish clear project objectives, deliverables, and timelines for each phase; monitor project progress against the plan and ensure adherence to the schedule; conduct phase gate reviews to assess project performance and readiness to proceed.
  • Collaborate with teams outside of Strategy & Policy as needed to support projects, including Regulation, Corporate Affairs, Legal, etc.
  • Represent projects at relevant internal governance forums and support the Programme Manager / Project Lead with external governance as required, including preparing for forums, organising materials, reminding team about deadlines, etc.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Understand where the timelines and resource requirements may conflict across projects.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and issues to stakeholders and senior management. Raise any issues and concerns arising from your projects and propose mitigations to the Programme Manager where appropriate, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and best practices. This may involve evaluating approaches and suggesting appropriate tools and frameworks for project management.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager with a strong understanding of both Agile and Waterfall project management principles. (Certification in Agile methodologies is a plus.)
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with the energy sector / regulated industry is highly advantageous.
