SEMH Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Support

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant - 1:1 SEN Support
Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

We are looking for a dedicated and patient Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis supporting a pupil with SEMH needs in a specialist SEN school in the beautiful town of Keswick, Cumbria.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to provide tailored support that helps a young person engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs

  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive strategies

  • Support the pupil's emotional well-being and social development

  • Assist the class teacher with delivering learning activities

  • Maintain records and contribute to support plans and reviews

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals



About You:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH or in an SEN setting (desirable)

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and staff

  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support or behaviour management are advantageous

  • Team Teach or similar behaviour de-escalation training (training can be provided)
