Developer - Energy Trading, MarketsLocation: Oxford/ HybridSalary up to £50,000We’re looking for a Developer with a passion for building high-performance systems that drive real-time decision-making in dynamic energy markets. This is your chance to make a direct impact in the energy transition, developing scalable infrastructure for a cutting-edge trading operation.Working closely with quantitative analysts and trading leaders, you will design and build robust back-end services, data pipelines and low-latency systems that power trading strategies. This role is the first developer within the trading team, offering a unique opportunity to take ownership and scale the function into a high-performing technology unit.What You'll Be Doing:

  • Architect and implement event-driven APIs and RESTful services for trading data and control systems.
  • Build real-time streaming pipelines with tools like Kafka, Spark, and Event Hub.
  • Deploy on Azure cloud infrastructure, using Functions, App Services, and Kubernetes (AKS).
  • Manage and ingest large datasets from multiple sources (FIX/WebSocket, APIs, exchange feeds).
  • Build ETL processes and backend frameworks to support analytics and trading execution.
  • Ensure 24/7 service uptime via robust monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling.
  • Collaborate with quant teams and operations to deliver solutions that truly drive P&L.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years in software development with strong Python skills (bonus for C# or JavaScript exposure).
  • Hands-on experience building real-time streaming and data-intensive systems.
  • Deep understanding of Azure services and CI/CD for cloud deployments.
  • Experience deploying and integrating FastAPI, Django, or similar frameworks.
  • Skilled in managing SQL databases, Delta Tables, and analytics backends.
  • Comfortable working in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Autonomous, resourceful, and driven to find the right tech for the right job.
  • Strong communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Azure Certifications (Developer Associate, Solutions Architect)
  • Front-end or full-stack experience (React, Angular, Vue)
  • Background in energy markets, ETRMs, or algorithmic trading
  • Familiarity with DataBricks, Fabric, KQL, and modern data platforms
  • Experience with trading systems and strategies
