We have an opportunity available for a Driver to join the Central Services Department at Thames Valley Police HQ.

Please note, this will be AD HOC work.

  • This is a temporary role.

  • Base would be Kidlington Police HQ (South)
  • You will need to have a clean Full UK Drivers Licence

The overall purpose of the role is to: Provide an efficient, effective and secure logistical service; collecting and delivering postal bags, evidential material (e.g. forensics, NABIS guns), crates and other items across the Force.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for driving a Force dispatch vehicle to designated locations via the most efficient and economic route according to road conditions & circumstances. Use judgement to amend the route to ensure a timely service is maintained, and materials reach their intended destination.
  • Gain access to premises using keys, fobs or access codes to enable the delivery of items at designated locations. Collect items and load securely in the van to facilitate sorting, ensuring at all times that premises are left secure on departure, while maintaining the security of vehicle and integrity of its load at all times. Notify the Support Services Team Leader of any concerns relating to access or items left for collection.
  • Liaise with the HQ Postal team to be fully briefed on the deliveries for that day, and any other pertinent information in relation to the route. Take responsibility for ensuring you are aware of any information that could impact on the service.
  • Apply any appropriate security measures / handling procedures required to ensure the transportation of any specialist / sensitive items (e.g. Forensics, NABIS guns, sensitive documents etc) are managed in line with Force Policy, ensuring the evidential chain is protected. This may involve secure boxes in the vans, or storage of items in fridges. Obtain signatures where these may be required.

Skills Required:

  • Good standard of education including proven numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, including permission to drive category C1 vehicles, to enable travel around the Force to different locations
  • As this is a physically active role, the post holder will be expected to lift/move heavy objects, both to waist height & shoulder height. Satisfactory completion of a manual handling course will be required (training given) and appropriate equipment provided.
  • Experience in a driving role
