Project Engineer (Water)

Location: Co Kilkenny & Midlands (Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon)

Duration: Permanent

Work Hours/Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm

Overview of the Role:

The successful candidate will work with the Project Manager in coordinating the

process/mechanical/civil/structural/electrical work associated with various Water and Wastewater Treatment contracts, nationwide, with varying complexity, in both municipal and industrial sectors.

The Project Engineer will have responsibility for assisting in the design development of the water and wastewater treatment contracts from early design /concept stage through to detailed design stage and onto delivery stage. Coordinating with our internal design departments (mechanical, electrical, process & automation), our sub-consultants (civil, structural, ecological etc) and client liaison during the entire design development process. Undertaking design tasks. Assisting in the preparation of delivery documentation for client submissions including technical submissions, managing sub-consultant submissions (incl planning), preparing regulatory Health & Safety documentation, detailed design packages, tendering documentation and construction design packages.

During delivery stage the Project Engineer will liaise with design teams and suppliers, manage subcontractors, installation personnel and commissioning teams to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and within budget. Ensure, all equipment is sized, procured, delivered, installed, tested and ultimately commissioned in accordance with contractual requirements.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Take ownership of delegated projects and project issues

  • Ensure thorough knowledge and understanding of the contract for all assigned

  • Evaluation of Client Specifications

  • Communicate with the Project Manager, Design Leads and Sub-Consultants

  • during the execution of the project

  • Communicate with engineering team, getting involved in the final design,

  • equipment selection and procurement activities

  • Liaise with Clients and Client Representatives

  • Organising, co-coordinating and managing design activities

  • Organising, co-coordinating and managing H&S requirements while liaising

  • with H&S Manager to ensure that all H&S requirements are satisfied;

  • Managing the project within defined budgets and programme

  • Thorough monitoring and control of the project and adherence to the project

  • brief and programme;

  • Anticipate risks and manage opportunities;

  • Apply procedures in place related to contract execution

Required Skills for the Role:

  • At Least NFQ Level 7 degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Hydraulic Engineering and/or Civil Engineering and/or Environmental Science and/or Environmental Engineering or similar Engineering discipline.

  • Practical experience in being part of a design team from initial stages to delivery stage

  • Managing design / site activities including team co-coordination

  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively manage & coordinate design /site activities

  • Practical site experience

  • Experience in the execution of water/wastewater engineering projects

  • IT skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point

  • Good organisational and time management skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Strong communication and writing skills
