Our client is seeking an experienced Drainage Engineer on a contract basis to join their team in Manchester. As part of the Development Control team for the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), you will be involved in the design and supervision of large, multi-disciplinary schemes, and will also have responsibility for standalone drainage schemes. A key aspect of the role will involve designing Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
You will also support the Flood Risk and Drainage Manager in fulfilling statutory requirements as set out in the Land Drainage and Flood and Water Management Acts.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess planning applications for compliance with national standards, local policies, and LLFA requirements.
  • Provide technical advice on surface water drainage strategies and flood risk assessments.
  • Ensure Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are designed, implemented, and maintained effectively.
  • Respond to statutory consultations during the planning process.
  • Liaise with developers, planners, Environment Agency, United Utilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to policy development and guidance documents related to flood risk and drainage.


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in drainage engineering within the highways sector.
  • Strong understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
  • Knowledge of national standards, local policies, and LLFA requirements.
  • Proficiency in interpreting flood risk assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to contribute to policy development and guidance documents.
