Purpose of the role:

Lead on engineering aspects of proposed site developments at Land acquisition, Planning, Design, Procurement and Construction stage. This is to include foul and surface water drainage strategy, flood risk, levels and retaining strategy, highways and foundation strategies and all structural proposals.

Skills and experiences essential to the role

Ability to prioritise and delegate as appropriate, effectively negotiate, motivate and communicate in order to influence others to ensure that the required objectives are met.

Leadership skills including assertiveness, being decisive, flexible, good time management, organised, effective at leading / participating in meetings, works well under pressure and to strict deadlines.

Experience and knowledge of Engineering, Planning & Design processes.

A general background knowledge in property.

Experience in stakeholder management.

Vision and ability to deliver and drive improved engineering solutions from an early stage using commercial awareness to recommend the most efficient outcome.

Main duties of the role: 

Lead or assist in the due diligence process for all projects being considered for acquisition by the business.

Lead or assist in the delivery of project information and preparation of sites for project commencement.

Review and advise on proposed foul and surface water strategy, earthworks / retaining strategy, foundation strategies, for cost efficiency including cut & fill.

Assist in selection process of civil and structural consultants for planning and detailed design work.

Assist in procurement of external consultant services, e.g. geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations, land surveys, etc

Review infrastructure and structural tender and construction drawings and other documents with particular emphasis on clarity of information and economy of design.

Understanding and management of legislative framework / agreements relevant to engineering aspects of residential development e.g. Water Industry Act, Highways Act, S38, S278, Approval in Principle etc. Ability to deliver these agreements to suit the project programme and achieve sign off and financial recovery following completion.

Attend site for inspections with relevant stakeholders. 

Advise internal and external development layout planners on matters relating to highway layout, e.g. horizontal and vertical alignment in accordance with highway standards, retaining structures and foundation impacts etc. whilst remaining compatible with our commercial requirements.

Attend site when required to ensure required construction standards are being met and to advise on the rectification of defects during the construction process. Site attendance may also be required to assist in the rectification of customer defect matters after occupation.

Advise internal departments on all engineering related matters as and when required.

Attend internal and external DTM’s and other meetings.

Attend external meetings with various stakeholders and legislative bodies including Water Authorities, Planners, Highways Authorities and Environment Agency.

Fully managing design procurement and construction interface of projects.

Success in this role requires experience in these areas:

Experience in residential development within a developer or consultant engineer environment. 

Experience of at least one major engineering infrastructure project associated with residential development from inception to completion.

Classification of major project classed as residential developments of 500+ units.

It would be an advantage to have these qualifications

Relevant Degree 

An appropriate qualification within a relevant UK professional body, Institution of Civil Engineers and/or Institution of Structural Engineers.
