My client is seeking a Head of Department to lead their  Commercial Property team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior solicitor with leadership experience and strong technical expertise in commercial property law to take on a strategic and client-facing role.About the Role As Head of Department, you will manage and grow a busy commercial property practice, taking responsibility for team leadership, client development, and the delivery of high-quality legal services. This role involves both hands-on legal work and strategic oversight, working closely with partners and the wider management team to drive the department forward.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Commercial Property department, including supervision and mentoring of junior lawyers and support staff.
  • Oversee a varied caseload including acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant matters, commercial leases, developments, and investment transactions.
  • Deliver expert, commercially focused legal advice to clients across sectors.
  • Maintain and grow strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Play an active role in business development, networking, and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Work with the senior management team to develop and implement departmental strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and risk management requirements.
  • Monitor team performance, targets, and financial KPIs, including billing and profitability.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Qualified Solicitor (8+ years PQE) with extensive experience in commercial property law.
  • Proven leadership experience within a legal team or department.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a proactive approach to business development.
  • Exceptional client care and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload while providing guidance and oversight to the team.
  • Desire to contribute to the strategic direction of the firm and the department.
