Role Overview

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an Assistant to Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own projects while reporting into a Senior QS for guidance and support.

This role would suit someone who has progressed beyond a graduate position and is ready to take ownership of their own schemes, working within a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and autonomy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects of assigned projects, from initial estimates through to final accounts.

     

  • Work across new build and refurbishment schemes, supporting projects with local football clubs, schools, hospitals, and airport facilities.

     

  • Prepare, submit and manage valuations, variations, and cost reports.

     

  • Work closely with site teams to ensure cost control and project delivery align with financial targets.

     

  • Contribute to tendering and procurement activities where required.

     

  • Report to and work collaboratively with a Senior Quantity Surveyor for commercial sign-off and mentoring support.

     

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

     

  • Ensure all works comply with contractual and commercial requirements.

     

 

About You

  • Minimum 2-4 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally with a main contractor.

     

  • Capable of running your own jobs and managing key commercial duties independently.

     

  • Experience across both new build and refurbishment projects.

     

  • Good knowledge of construction contracts and frameworks (experience with Framework projects desirable).

     

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

     

  • Proficient in standard QS software and Microsoft Office.

     

  • Full UK driving licence - flexibility to travel between North West sites.

     

 

Key Details

  • Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE.

     

  • Location: Based from one of the client's North West offices, with travel to sites in Manchester, Runcorn, Chester and Manchester Airport.

     

  • Project Mix: Approx. 70% Framework work, offering stability and long-term project pipelines.

     

  • Reporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor.

     

  • Interview Process: Face-to-face interviews preferred (Teams interviews can delay the process).

     

  • Start Date: Ideally before Christmas if available, though the client is understanding of notice periods.
