TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist academy in Knutsford that provides high-quality education for children and young people with SEMH needs and associated learning difficulties. The school offers a nurturing, inclusive environment where every learner is supported to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff at the school work collaboratively to create a safe, structured setting underpinned by trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.

We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join this dynamic and caring team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, compassionate, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Assist in creating and maintaining a calm, safe, and positive learning environment

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to deliver tailored learning plans

  • Promote emotional regulation and positive social interactions among pupils

Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours (essential)

  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practice (desirable)

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
