Business Development Manager

Sector: Life Science (academia and Industry)

Location: home office based with c2-3 days travel per week

Salary: competitive package based around skills and experience

We are excited to be working with an established and innovative supplier of Life Science services to industry and academia and supporting their search for a Business Development Manager. They are seeking an experienced New Business Developer who has an established background selling drug discovery; industry and academia.

This is "new business" focused role will be home office based with regular travel to customer sites and to their facilities in the north of the UK. It’s an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious and success orientated individual who is looking to play a pivotal role in developing the division and will see very real results from their sales efforts. You’ll be working with the Senior Management Team to shape the division and will have a direct impact of the formation and development of the offering.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Lead generation through proactive out-bound activity including client visits, attending events/exhibitions, marketing campaigns and cold calling. Nurturing leads and closed for service sales
  • Develop and maintain the customer CRM
  • Host customers at site to demonstrate capabilities & service offering
  • Negotiate packages with customers
  • Develop sales proposals and prepare standard sales contracts in line with specific procedures.
  • Perform market/competitor research
  • Liaise with senior management over the innovation and development of service offering to establish a foothold in the market and carve a niche to meet the demands of customers

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree qualified in a Life Science related discipline (or with equivalent industry experience working in or selling similar lab services)
  • Proven experience of working in a scientific sales environment
  • Well networked with Academics and Pharma/Biotech professions within the Life Sciences sector
  • Experienced in a tender sales process
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of Assay validation, cell/tissue culture, bio-, tissue, cell- banking
  • Ability to build and establish collaborative relationships
  • Self-motivated, positive and ambitious
  • Driver with full UK driving license and able to travel regularly to cover territory; including visiting to their Head Office in the north
