HGV Waste Collection Driver

Location: Argyll Road, Preston, PR1 6JY
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 3+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week

Responsibilities
  • Drive vehicles for refuse collection and recycling tasks, including skip loaders.
  • Supervise a team of labourers and other drivers during operations.
  • Operate both automatic and manual refuse collection and recycling equipment.
  • Move and empty wheeled bins, food waste caddies, and refuse sacks in all weather conditions.
  • Provide domestic, food, bulky item, and trade waste collections.
  • Collect, sort, and load various items such as newspapers, magazines, glass, cans, and textiles at speed.
  • Deliver leaflets, wheeled bins, storage boxes, and sacks to households.
  • Maintain high levels of productivity throughout tasks.
  • Engage with the public in a polite, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Work overtime to complete collection rounds as necessary.
  • Assist in promoting the service and communicate with householders.
  • Support other Cleansing duties, including transfer station tasks when needed.
  • Utilize in-cab technology effectively.
  • Work on Bank Holidays except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
  • Continue working until round completion.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and equipment to a high standard.
  • Conduct daily driver safety checks and report any vehicle defects promptly.
  • Adhere to health and safety legislation and use reversing assistants where required.
  • Comply with driving legislation, including the use of tachographs.
