Job Description

Job Title: Business Development Manager
Reports to: Chief Executive
Location: Hybrid – Home-based with travel across Surrey as required
Salary: £45,000-£50,000 pro rata
Hours: Part time – 24 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

Key Purpose of the Role

To generate income for Surrey Care Association (SCA) through the development and stewardship of commercial partnerships and sponsorships. This role is pivotal to SCA’s financial sustainability, enabling us to continue supporting social care providers and the people they care for across Surrey.

The postholder will spend their time equally between maintaining and developing existing commercial partnerships, and identifying and securing new sponsorships, partnerships, and income opportunities. Prospective supporters may include suppliers to the care sector, Surrey-based SMEs, and national or multinational companies with regional presence.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Commercial Partnerships and Sponsorships

Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with existing commercial partners to maximise retention and value. Identify, engage, and secure new commercial supporters, sponsors, and advertisers that align with SCA’s mission and our members’ needs. Research and target businesses based in or connected to Surrey, including suppliers to the social care sector, to develop tailored partnership proposals. Develop sponsorship packages and income opportunities linked to SCA events, such as conferences and awards. Ensure commercial partners receive agreed benefits and visibility, and that their contributions support SCA’s objectives and member needs. Collaborate with the team to deliver marketing campaigns that highlight partners’ services to members, including through digital channels, newsletters, and events. Internal Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with the membership officer to deliver cohesive and effective partner management. Represent SCA in meetings and events with prospective and current partners, demonstrating professionalism and sector understanding. Act as a bridge between commercial partners and SCA members, promoting appropriate and beneficial connections. Systems and Reporting

Maintain up-to-date records of partner activity and prospects using the CRM system. Ensure accurate data collection, management and reporting in line with GDPR and SCA protocols. Provide regular performance reports, including income generated, pipeline activity, and partner engagement. Monitor and evaluate partnership performance to ensure ROI for both SCA and our supporters. Contribute to financial processes and budget forecasting related to income generation. Person Specification

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of successful business development, income generation, or B2B sales.
  • Proven experience in securing funding from large corporate organisations
  • Commercially astute, with experience building strong business cases and securing investment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A persuasive and confident communicator, both written and verbal, in professional and informal settings.
  • Knowledge or interest in the adult social care sector, or experience working in values-led or membership/trade organisations.
  • Experience developing compelling sponsorship or partnership proposals tailored to specific business audiences.
  • Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Data-literate and financially competent: able to manage budgets, analyse figures, and report on performance.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, CRM systems, social media platforms, and email marketing tools.
  • Creative and adaptable, with a solutions-focused mindset and the ability to spot new opportunities.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small, dynamic team.
  • Car owner/driver or the ability to travel across Surrey and to meetings as required.
