Head Chef Job Description

The Head Chef is responsible for the overall culinary operation of the restaurant. This includes creating and executing menus, managing the kitchen staff, and ensuring that the restaurant meets the highest standards of food quality and service.


The ideal candidate will have a strong culinary background and experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant. They will be creative and innovative, with a passion for food and a commitment to excellence. They will also be a strong leader and manager, with the ability to motivate and inspire their team.

A Sous chef ready to step up into their first head chef position may be considered, the ideal chef needs to be driven and a strong kitchen manager, and have excellent menu creating skills for this modern British gastro pub.


Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute menus that are both creative and appealing to guests

  • Manage the kitchen staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling

  • Ensure that the kitchen is operating efficiently and in a safe manner

  • Inspect food quality and ensure that all food is prepared according to health regulations

  • Oversee the service of food to guests, ensuring that they have a positive dining experience

  • Represent the restaurant to the public and build relationships with customers and vendors


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:


  • 5+ years of experience working as a chef in a high-volume restaurant up to Head chef, although strong Sous chefs will be considered

  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques

  • Excellent leadership and management skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Food safety certification
