Associate / Technical Director - Transport Planner

Location: London, Bristol, Leeds (Hybrid Working)

Looking to take the next step in your transport planning career and move into a senior leadership position?

An opportunity has arisen for an Associate / Technical Director Transport Planner to join a well-established, multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering complex transport planning solutions across the UK. This role is suited to a senior consultant who combines strong technical expertise with client leadership, commercial awareness and team development.

The Role

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of transport planning commissions across a range of sectors, managing key client relationships and contributing to the strategic growth of the transport planning function.

The role includes overseeing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements, applying recognised transport appraisal techniques, managing modelling inputs and ensuring high technical standards. You will also mentor and develop colleagues, manage project finances and support work-winning activity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and developing client relationships

  • Preparing and negotiating fee proposals

  • Leading transport planning projects from inception to delivery

  • Managing budgets, programmes and resources

  • Providing technical leadership and quality assurance

  • Mentoring and developing team members

  • Keeping up to date with policy, guidance and best practice

  • Adding value through pragmatic, commercially focused solutions

About You

You will be a highly experienced transport planner, ideally from a consultancy background, confident operating at Associate or Technical Director level.

You should demonstrate:

  • A relevant degree qualification

  • Significant experience delivering Transport Assessments and Transport Statements

  • Strong capability with PICADY and ARCADY (Junctions 9)

  • Experience using or interpreting LINSIG outputs

  • Understanding of micro-simulation and strategic modelling principles

  • Strong knowledge of DMRB and Manual for Streets

  • Experience with access, parking and sustainable transport strategies

  • Knowledge of S106 agreements, S278 agreements and Traffic Regulation Orders

  • Excellent communication, leadership and client-facing skills
