The Project

As a highly experienced Building Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in conducting thorough building validation surveys on residential properties across West Yorkshire. You will assess the condition and safety of each property, including inspecting structural integrity, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring full compliance with housing health and safety regulations. Additionally, you will produce detailed reports with clear, actionable recommendations for repairs or improvements, ensuring that all properties meet the required standards for safe and healthy living conditions.

Requirements

For this role it is essential that you carry the following professional qualifications as a minimum;

  • Full UK driving license and own transport

It is also essential that you hold the experience below;

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully conducting validation surveys on a range of residential properties in compliance with HHSRS standards

The Role

  • Job Title: Building Surveyor
  • Job Type: Long-term freelance
  • Project: Various Residential Properties
  • Location: West Yorkshire
  • Duration: 5 years
  • Reporting to: Head of Surveying

Duties

  • Estimate and prepare cost projections for construction projects
  • Efficiently execute property validation inspections on residential sites
  • Offer guidance on defects, remediation strategies and associated costs
  • Manage projects and client relationships independently with complete accountability
  • Utilize in-house software on a licensed iPad to accurately record and submit findings
  • Strive to maintain a pace of at least three surveys per hour, subject to site conditions
  • Recognise potential risks in building projects and suggesting strategies to minimise them
  • Join scheduled meetings and interviews as needed through phone calls or Microsoft Teams
  • Guiding junior staff in finding solutions and helping other team members in solution development
  • Liaise with clients, confirming the project scope and ensure that all deliverables are met efficiently
  • Building and nurturing relationships with new and existing clients by successfully delivering projects
  • Create long-term maintenance strategies and plans to maintain the safety and functionality of buildings
  • Coordinate with Head of Surveying, preparing and managing project timelines, workloads and resources
  • Conduct detailed checks to validate all existing property records and data are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with on-site findings
  • Supervise the assignment of Junior Engineers and Technicians to projects whilst offering mentorship, support, and training
  • Assess and document health and safety hazards in line with HHSRS guidelines, such as damp, mould, and electrical risks
  • Draft comprehensive reports on the condition of buildings, covering structural, mechanical, and aesthetic evaluations
  • Ensure buildings adhere to safety, accessibility, and environmental regulations, while providing guidance on compliance issues
