VIQU has partnered with a leading supply chain company looking for a Data Engineering Product Owner to help shape and drive the future of their data platform. This is a hybrid role, combining stakeholder engagement, product direction, and technical oversight – ideal for someone who understands data engineering but can also take a broader product-led view to deliver tangible business value.
You’ll be working closely with both business and technical teams – leading conversations, defining and prioritising platform features, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions. You’ll play a key part in helping the business get the most from their investment in modern data technologies.
Key Responsibilities of the Data Engineering Product Owner:
- Act as an SME for the data engineering domain, particularly across cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure)
- Own the product roadmap for the data engineering space – identifying, shaping and prioritising features to deliver real business value.
- Drive delivery of data platform capabilities, ensuring alignment with engineering best practices and technical strategy.
- Guide engineering teams on best practice, methodologies, and solution design.
- Lead implementation of data solutions, with a focus on scalability, performance, and security.
- Translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Actively engage with business stakeholders to understand their needs and turn them into actionable technical requirements.
- Provide input on data modelling, data flows, and pipeline optimisation as part of delivering robust platform capabilities.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with domain-specific technologies and delivery.
Key Requirements of the Data Engineering Product Owner:
- Strong background in data engineering, with experience in a product owner or product manager.
- Proven ability to work closely with both business and technical teams – translating complex requirements clearly to both.
- Experience working with AWS (preferred) or Azure cloud environments.
- Hands-on experience or strong understanding of Databricks (or other Spark-based platforms).
- Familiarity with modern data modelling approaches and pipeline design.
- Confident leading conversations across technical teams and stakeholders – strong communicator and collaborator.
- Knowledge of data security, governance, and best practice tooling is a plus.
- Ideally degree-educated in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar, with 8+ years in data-related roles.
