Legal Cashier/Disbursements Team Leader Leeds

Salary of up to £40K, depending on experience

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Legal Cashier who has managed or mentored a team previously. You will ideally have some experience within disbursements however this isn’t essential.

The role itself is varied, busy, and offers plenty of scope to make an impact. You’ll be responsible for leading the Legal Cashiering team with a focus on disbursement processes, compliance, and improving operational efficiency. You’ll also act as the main point of contact for disbursement-related queries and audits, working closely with internal teams such as Procurement, Billing, and Working Capital.

Key responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day work of the Legal Cashiering team, ensuring accurate and timely disbursement processing
  • Reviewing and improving disbursement workflows in collaboration with key teams across finance and operations
  • Acting as the go-to person for audit queries around firm disbursements and ensuring financial controls are followed
  • Providing training and support across the wider team to improve understanding of disbursement processes
  • Reviewing and approving new suppliers, bank detail changes, and payment releases
  • Managing credit card and petty cash reconciliations, as well as VAT and withholding tax checks
  • Month-end and year-end processes including reconciliations, manual uploads, and voucher processing
  • Handling disbursement debtors and following up on unpaid balances
  • Supporting Fee Earners with ledger queries and ensuring compliance with SRA and AML regulations
  • Checking bills, credit notes, and completion statements
  • Managing cash flow and liaising with directors on forecasts and updates
  • Leading on performance management, resource planning, and development within the team

What we’re looking for

  • Experience as a Legal Cashier, with recent exposure to the SRA Accounts Rules
  • Strong knowledge of disbursement and accounts payable processes
  • A background in professional services or legal finance
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team
  • A good understanding of AML compliance and risk management
  • Confident using Excel and working with large volumes of data
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders at all levels
  • Well-organised with a calm, methodical approach to managing workloads and priorities
