SHEQ Officer
Location: Leeds, LS10
Salary: £35,000 per year
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Pattern: Flexitime, with some national travel required
About the Role
The SHEQ Officer plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety, health, environmental awareness, and quality compliance across the organisation. This position supports operational teams by ensuring adherence to regulations, running audits and inspections, managing risk mitigation processes, and delivering training.
Key Responsibilities of the SHEQ Officer
- Conduct regular SHEQ audits, risk assessments, and site inspections across the UK
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses, and quality non-conformances
- Recommend and follow up on corrective and preventative actions
- Deliver SHEQ training, inductions, and development sessions
- Support engineering change processes and continuous improvement initiatives
- Document, maintain, and improve internal processes and procedures
- Promote a proactive, positive safety culture throughout the organisation
- Support emergency preparedness and response planning
- Liaise with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and contractors
- Monitor environmental performance and advise on environmental protection practices
- Conduct internal and external audits, including subcontractor assessments
- Ensure best practice in compliance areas such as COSHH, LOLER, and PUWER
- Facilitate SHEQ improvements through research, data, and analysis
Experience Required:
- 4–5 years’ experience in a similar SHEQ role within engineering, manufacturing, or a related technical sector
- Relevant qualifications, minimum NEBOSH General Certificate
- Strong working knowledge of UK HSE regulations and compliance standards
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings (PDF and DWG)
- Experience with non-conformance reporting and engineering change requests
- Audit experience (internal or external) is beneficial
- Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively manage workload
- Willingness to travel nationally as required
