Early careers Personal Care Assistant - Part time

Are you a recent graduate and not sure what to do next? Or are you someone with a passion for making a positive impact in others’ lives?

We are recruiting a team of PA’s on behalf of our client, a University graduate who studied Human Geography at York St John University. They are looking for a team of PA’s to enable him to be as independent as possible.

Start: ASAP

Shift Pattern: Saturday Sunday every week, 9am-5pm Mondays 7am-7pm

Location: Kippax (LS25)

Pay: £15 per hour

Holidays: 5.6 weeks annual leave, pro rata.

About the role:

He lives with a condition called Muscular Dystrophy and will require support with certain aspects of his life - Personal Care, and Day to Day support in his home and at University. He relies on a Power Wheelchair day-to-day, and requires the PA’s to be there when necessary to support him.

Our client takes a large interest in Railways, History and enjoys playing Video Games. Due to his University Course, residential trips are a common occurrence, so he would be looking for someone to join him overnight and enjoy the trips, whilst he carries on his University life.

As stated by the client ..

ā€œI have Muscular Dystrophy which means I rely on a power wheelchair to go about my daily business. It also means certain parts of my body have locked into a fixed position so for example, I can’t reach the top of my head with my arms, nor stretch very far in front of me to reach something as one normally could. Lastly, it has resulted in me having a fixed neck (that came about during prolonged stillness during back surgery for my fixed rod) which means I appear to be always looking into space (it’s not that interesting up there) therefore to correct this I have to lean forward. A good way to visualize me is to imagine that ā€˜The Thinker’ statue, I’d be the modern equivalent, I’m already mostly there on the statue element.

For me as a person, my hobbies include railways and history. Both subjects I find really interesting, especially railways. I enjoy visiting places such as the NRM, Robin Hoods Bay, and Fountains Abbey. I also enjoy playing video games too. I don’t like writing about personality because I never know what to put or don’t want to big myself up, nevertheless, I consider myself to be good-humored and down to Earth on most matters.ā€

About you:

  • You will need to have a good sense of humour
  • Be an animal lover
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be open minded
  • Good organisation skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative
  • Be clean and tidy, both in appearance and ways
  • Ideally be independent, but also reliable and trustworthy when necessary.
  • Drivers Licence is not a necessity but would be advantageous
  • Vaccinated against Covid and Flu
  • Non-Smoker
