Are you a time-served mechanical engineer with experience in textiles or fibre processing open to relocating to Somerset for a fantastic opportunity? Do you know your way around carding machinery and want to join a business that's investing heavily in its people, equipment and long-term growth?
Yolk Recruitment are supporting a rapidly growing nonwoven manufacturer who are on track to increase turnover by more than 150% in just five years. With strong demand and continued site investment, they're looking for a Textile Maintenance Engineer to take ownership of carding machinery performance, reliability and continuous improvement.
This is a rare opportunity in the South West to join a specialist, process-led manufacturer where your experience will have a real impact. Please note, experience with carding machionery is essential.
This is what you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and optimising a range of carding and fibre-processing machinery. The goal is simple: stable production, minimal downtime and consistent product quality.
Your duties will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on carding equipment.
- Responding quickly and effectively to mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
- Diagnosing faults across cylinders, drums, doffers, combs, drives and feed systems.
- Working closely with production teams to improve reliability and machine performance.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records and supporting CI activity.
- Sharing knowledge with operators and apprentices to build internal capability.
- Supporting spare parts planning and improving long-term asset care.
- Reducing contractor reliance through robust engineering solutions.
- Completing all work safely and in line with site regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
* Experience working on carding machinery - cylinders, flats, doffers, combs, feed systems etc
* Strong mechanical fault-finding and strip-down skills
* Good electrical awareness
* Experience within textiles, nonwovens, fibre lines or similar process environments
* A proactive, methodical approach to maintenance and reliability
Desirable:
* Experience with equipment such as Trtzschler, Laroche, Andritz, NSC, Dilo, Autefa
* Lean or CI experience
* Exposure to capital upgrades or equipment improvements
