Leeds City Council are looking for a Claims Administration Assistant to join our Insurance team within the Internal Audit, Corporate Governance, and Insurance section of Financial Services. This role is crucial for providing temporary administrative support in the handling of insurance claims, ensuring the council maintains efficient and effective insurance arrangements.
Day-to-day of the role:- Enter and record complete and accurate data related to claims on the council’s claims database system.
- Provide administrative support in the entry and processing of insurance claims in a timely manner, adhering to practice directions and corporate guidelines.
- Assist in the registration of claims with external agencies, including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU).
- Liaise with the Claims Team, Claims Litigation section, and other interested parties on claims-related issues as directed.
- Respond to queries from officers, external organisations, and the public on claims matters, providing supporting data.
- Handle telephone enquiries and respond to voicemails.
- Raise accurate and timely payments within the council’s Financial Management System (FMS) and assist in other financial tasks as directed.
- Report regularly to the Deputy Insurance Manager with progress reports and details of significant issues.
- Perform all functions and duties effectively and in accordance with Council policies and codes of practice, Financial Regulations, Information Governance requirements, agreed objectives, targets, and timetables, and management directives.
- Excellent communication skills, able to interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals from various disciplines and organisations (internal and external).
- Ability to set and meet deadlines, targets, and objectives in accordance with corporate and legal priorities.
- Practical working knowledge of various computerised systems and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with techniques used to redact information for disclosure.
- Familiarity with administrative tasks within a financial ledger system.
- Experience in determining priorities, and setting and meeting targets and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, preferably within an insurance and claims setting.
