Head of Department – Conveyancing – Residential Property – Leeds/Hybrid

Are you an experienced residential conveyancer who is ready to step into a senior leadership role? An established, CQS-accredited Legal 500 law firm in Leeds is seeking a dynamic Head of Conveyancing to lead its boutique residential property team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled legal professional who values quality over volume and is passionate about client care, compliance and team development.

The Opportunity

This is not a volume-based conveyancing role. The residential property team is part of a broader, highly respected real estate department and works closely with high-net-worth individuals and corporate clients referred through private client, family and commercial departments. The firm is renowned for its bespoke service and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and client service.

Responsibilities

As Head of Conveyancing, you will play a key leadership role with day-to-day duties including:

  • Leading and managing a small, specialised conveyancing team of solicitors, conveyancers, paralegals and support staff
  • Handling and supervising residential transactions including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity
  • Ensuring full compliance with CQS standards, SRA regulations and internal protocols
  • Acting as the key point of contact during external audits and quality assurance reviews
  • Allocating work effectively, improving processes and maintaining high service standards
  • Driving client relationship development and business growth through cross-referrals and collaboration across departments
  • Mentoring junior team members and fostering a culture of professional growth

About You

To be considered, you will be:

  • A qualified solicitor, licensed conveyancer or CILEX professional with significant residential conveyancing experience
  • Experienced in managing a conveyancing team or department within a legal practice
  • Familiar with the regulatory landscape, including CQS protocols and SRA compliance
  • An excellent communicator with strong leadership and organisational skills
  • Commercially astute, client-focused and committed to high-quality service delivery
  • Calm under pressure and capable of working both independently and as part of a wider team
