Leeds City Council are looking for a dedicated Driver/Roadworker to join our team for a 3 - month period. This role is crucial for providing a safe, efficient, and effective highway construction, maintenance, and winter service, meeting the needs of the citizens of Leeds.
Day-to-day of the role:- Drive safely and responsibly, managing any allocated vehicle, including completion of drivers’ hours record book.
- Provide a reliable highway construction and maintenance service, following instructions from your Manager/Supervisor.
- Conduct vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and ensure cleanliness of the cab.
- Ensure the safe use of the vehicle and oversee the operational work and safety of self, colleagues, on-site contractors, and customers.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic management measures in accordance with ‘Chapter 8’ and Safety at Street Works and Road Works code of practice.
- Support in laying kerbs, edgings, block paving, and flag paving, and in the placing, spreading, and compaction of materials.
- Assist with excavation operations, including acting as banksman, and operate small plant machinery.
- Participate in Winter Service operations, including driving a gritting vehicle equipped with a snow plough on a rota basis.
- Use technology for recording purposes correctly and report any issues promptly.
- Deliver a customer-focused service, handling public queries politely.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure a high-quality service delivery.
- Comply with all relevant Health and Safety regulations and attend necessary training courses.
- LGV Licence Class C or Class C+E.
- Knowledge of Drivers’ Hours Rules, both GB Domestic and EU Tachograph rules.
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a lorry.
- Experience in dealing with the public in a polite and courteous manner.
- Awareness of the current Highway Code and Health and Safety legislation related to construction work.
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and work as part of a team.
- Skilled in driving and manoeuvring rigid demountable-bodied vehicles and operating auto sheeting mechanisms.
- Ability to identify and report vehicle defects and use mobile phones and other in-cab technology.
- Willingness to learn new information and instructions.
