Payroll isn't the sexiest job in the world. But it is one of the most important. Because if you mess up, 1,800 people don't get paid, they tend to notice pretty quickly.
This Leeds City Centre based business need a Payroll Administrator who's not scared of deadlines, spreadsheets, and the occasional mildly panicked phone call from someone convinced their payslip is wrong.
You'll be looking after a workforce spread across 30+ sites, most of them hourly paid, which means timesheets, absences, and shifts that don't always add up neatly. Accuracy isn't just a nice-to-have here, it's the difference between a smooth month and chaos.
You'll work alongside the Payroll Manager, but this isn't a role where someone holds your hand. If you've got at least three years of UK payroll experience in a busy, multi-site organisation, you'll know what needs doing - PAYE, pensions, statutory stuff, P60s, reconciliations, the whole lot.
What you'll be doing:
- Monitor payroll submission cut-off dates and chase missing info from sites
- Check and maintain data within time & attendance systems
- Liaise with site managers, administrators, and HR to ensure accuracy
- Support with e-payslip administration
- Reconcile data returned from payroll bureau
- Process starters, leavers, and transfers
- Track sickness and other absences
- Calculate holiday pay for leavers
- Provide information for audits and external/statistical requests
- Handle payroll-related employee queries
- Train new site-based admin staff on payroll processes and legislation
- Support Payroll Manager and Finance/HR teams with ad hoc tasks
What they're looking for:
- Solid payroll experience (weekly/hourly staff especially)
- An Excel-friendly brain
- CIPP (nice to have but not a deal breaker)
- The ability to stay organised when deadlines are flying at you
- Someone who can explain payroll in plain English to non-finance colleagues without sighing loudly
In return you'll get:
- £27k - £30k salary (depending on experience)
- 25 days holiday
- A stable role in a people-focused organisation where your work really matters
