Youth Worker- Mainstream Primary School - East Leeds

Engage Education are currently working in partnership with a mainstream primary school based in East Leeds who are looking for an additional Youth Worker to work in their specialist provision on an exciting new position specifically to support learners with challenging behaviours.

Many of the behaviours stem from children having additional needs such as Autism, or being looked after children whilst they’re estranged from their families which is causing dysregulation with their behaviour whilst they’re in education.

Typical behaviour expectations from the children include;

  • Challenging behaviours for example verbally and physcially aggressive
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Potential gang affiliation
  • At risk of being permanently excluded from their mainstream education

Having previous experience working with people with challenging behaviours - both children and adults - will be a strong advantage! Anyone from a care, support worker or youth worker is encouraged to apply. Being team teach trained would also be an advantage.

We can provide training to any candidates who show a real passion and eagerness to learn, however, the ideal candidate must have good behaviour management.

Your Role:

  • Supporting learners on a one-to-one basis with complex needs
  • Implementing new behaviour strategies
  • De-esculating challenging behaviours
  • Offering nurturing support
  • Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class
  • Providing feedback to teachers and parents

The School:

This school strives to give their pupils a fresh approach to learning. They encourage pupils to continue their educational progress both within the time they are there and when they are ready to move on to other schools and establishments.

This provision recognises the need to address both the social and emotional needs of their pupils alongside and in conjunction with their educational needs.

What you will need:

  • A range of behaviour management techniques
  • To have worked with learners with a range of needs
  • The ability to engage a young person in learning through a range of methods
  • To be able to commit to working at the school for long period of time
  • A resilient attitude
