Software Engineer Command & Control

Location: Bristol (hybrid, primarily on-site)
Salary: Up to £65,000 depending on experience + bonus + comprehensive benefits package

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer to join a high-performing team focused on developing the next generation of Command and Control solutions for advanced Air Defence Systems.

This hands-on role is best suited to individuals with a strong technical foundation, who enjoy working on secure, safety-critical software in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will contribute to solutions that are central to operational effectiveness and national defence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Command and Control software architectures for future defence systems

  • Collaborate with software, systems, and electronics engineers in agile teams

  • Support the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to integration and verification

  • Contribute to the evolution of tools, processes, and development approaches

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven background in software engineering with a strong understanding of systems integration

  • Proficiency in C++

  • Experience with software architecture models

  • Ability to work effectively in teams and maintain development momentum

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of real-time, multi-threaded applications

  • Experience working across full software lifecycle, including automated integration and verification

  • Familiarity with Ada or additional programming languages

  • Knowledge of industry standards such as DefStan 00-55, DO-178C, IEC61508

  • Awareness of restricted coding standards such as MISRA C++
