Our client is a stalwart of the UK Removals and Storage Industry—a multi-branch, long-term BAR member with a great reputation for quality. They are seeking a proactive and organised Assistant Branch Manager to support daily operations within the Leeds branch.
This role involves overseeing moving crews, coordinating transportation and storage logistics, ensuring high-quality customer service, and supporting the branch manager with team leadership, compliance, and process improvement. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the removals, transportation, or logistics sector, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Branch Manager in overseeing day-to-day branch operations.
- Supervise and coordinate removal teams, drivers, and logistics staff to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Plan, schedule, and dispatch vehicles and personnel for household, office, and commercial removals.
- Conduct site surveys and risk assessments for removal jobs when required.
- Manage inventory and storage logistics, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
- Processing weekly wages to head office.
- Completing and sending client invoices.
- Credit control for the branch.
- Provide excellent customer service, handling escalated customer issues and complaints professionally.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, transport laws, and company policies.
- Monitor and improve operational efficiency, cost control, and team performance.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and evaluating staff.
- Maintain accurate records of removals, deliveries, vehicle usage, and incident reports.
- Support the Branch Manager with administrative duties, reporting, and audits.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Proven experience in the removals, logistics, or transportation industry (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Previous supervisory or assistant management experience is desirable.
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Good working knowledge of logistics planning, vehicle routing, and storage procedures.
- Familiarity with health and safety practices in a transport/removals setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and logistics software (TMS, CRM, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license (commercial license preferred).
Working Conditions:
- On-site and field-based work, including occasional lifting or assisting with removals.
- May involve early mornings, late evenings, or weekends depending on job schedules.
- Fast-paced environment with a need for flexibility and adaptability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) - desirable, willing to train
- First Aid or Health & Safety certification
- Counterbalance forklift licence
