Overall Purpose of the Job
The Health and Social Care teacher plays a vital role in inspiring and motivating students to engage with the subject, making learning meaningful, relevant, and accessible. The development of students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding in Health and Social Care depends significantly on the quality of teaching provided.
Areas of Accountability
The Health and Social Care teacher, accountable to the Head of Department, is responsible for:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and inclusive lessons in line with the departmental curriculum and examination board specifications where applicable.
- Ensuring that all students are challenged appropriately and are working at a level and pace suited to their individual needs and potential.
- Setting and assessing classwork and homework regularly, using these assessments to monitor progress and inform teaching strategies.
- Maintaining a positive, supportive, and well-ordered learning environment, and liaising with the Head of Department and relevant pastoral staff regarding any concerns about student behaviour or academic progress.
- Accurately recording attendance and ensuring that any unexplained absences are followed up appropriately.
- Completing all assessments, reports, and pupil profiles in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborating with departmental colleagues to support the development of Health and Social Care as a subject and staying up to date with current subject knowledge and pedagogical best practices, including participation in relevant CPD activities.
- Providing individual support and guidance to students and communicating effectively with parents and carers about student progress and well-being.
- Contributing to the smooth and effective running of the department by sharing in administrative and organisational responsibilities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in Art, Design, or a related creative discipline.
- A strong knowledge of contemporary and historical art practices.
- Excellent classroom management skills and a commitment to high standards.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to inspire and engage all learners.
- A genuine passion for art education and creative learning.
