Gleeson are working with a business based in Leicester that are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Group Finance team. This position will play a vital role in supporting the overall financial operations by managing a variety of accounting functions, from posting transactions to balance sheet reconciliations. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys collaborating with multiple teams to ensure accuracy and timely financial reporting.

This role will initially be a 5/6 month FTC with the potential of a permenant opportunity.

  • 3 days on site
  • Salary between £33,000 - £40,000

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance of all essential financial records, including but not limited to bank reconciliations, cashbooks, expenses, VAT, income, and intercompany transactions.

  • Ensure the accurate and timely posting of journals, maintaining clear and up-to-date ledgers.

  • Manage accruals and prepayments to ensure compliance and accuracy.

  • Prepare detailed, clear, and accurate balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Analyse key financial data and accounts such as rebates, expenses, grants, and intercompany balances, providing insightful reports.

  • Provide assistance and guidance to divisional finance teams when necessary, helping them navigate accounting processes and ensuring alignment.

  • Contribute to the forecasting and budgeting process by providing key financial data.

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the wider Group Finance team and assist with administrative duties on finance-related initiatives.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a finance role, ideally within a large corporate environment, is highly advantageous.

  • Strong organisational abilities, with the capability to deliver accurate results under pressure and within strict deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial data clearly to non-finance colleagues.

  • A detail-focused individual who takes pride in delivering precise work.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a focus on financial analysis and reporting.

  • A collaborative team player who can also work independently and demonstrate initiative.
