Insurance and Claims Officer

We are seeking an experienced Insurance and Claims Officer to join our in-house claims handling team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in liability and personal injury claims, particularly in public liability, employers liability, or motor negligence policies. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing claims, negotiating settlements, and advising on insurance matters within the council.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Progress and record information on an allocated caseload of insurance claims against the council, including investigating potential fraud cases.
  • Determine liability by reviewing and investigating cases and evidence provided.
  • Work closely with council department staff on cases affecting them.
  • Meet, interview, and negotiate with claimants, their legal representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Recommend and prepare cases for court challenges, including injury compensation.
  • Instruct Loss Adjusters as necessary.
  • Propose actions to reduce incidents or procedural changes to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Arrange site meetings to determine circumstances surrounding specific incidents.
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks associated with the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience in handling insurance claims.
  • Strong understanding of common law negligence and risk management.
  • Proficient in using office-based ICT applications for email, internet access, word processing, spreadsheet analysis, and database updating.
  • Excellent level of English language communication skills for professional interactions.
  • Ability to analyse facts and situations and compile, produce, summarise, and present various reports.
  • Progressing towards or willing to complete ACII qualification or possess equivalent knowledge and experience.
