We are seeking a Manager for our Passenger and Transport Services division, who will provide decisive and effective leadership in line with the council’s ‘Vision & Values’ and ‘Leadership Qualities’. This role is crucial in delivering a specialised service that is safe, efficient, and meets the diverse requirements of our passengers while complying with all related regulations and policies.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Leading People 

    • Involve teams in creating a shared purpose to help them develop and achieve results.
    • Provide clear direction and manage performance by setting objectives, monitoring outputs, and holding individuals accountable.
    • Adapt leadership style to ensure positive outcomes and respect diverse views.
    • Utilise HR tools for effective people and performance management.
    • Develop positive relationships within and outside the team, fostering a culture of trust, fairness, and respect.
    • Encourage creativity and innovation within teams, supporting their development and autonomy.
  • Management Responsibilities:

    • Manage and develop approximately 200 council employees.
    • Supervise activities of around 12 staff members, including those in matrix-managed or temporary project roles.
    • Oversee the work of about 6 casual or contracted employees.
    • Manage staffing and some involvement in budget management
  • Service Development/Management:

    • Coordinate and manage service level information and business support systems.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with health and safety, business continuity, and premises issues.
    • Engage in strategic risk management and service development, including IT systems and process improvements.
  • Stakeholder Management:

    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with partners and represent the service at strategic external meetings.
    • Participate in multi-agency strategy meetings to ensure compliance with local authority policies.
    • Manage public interactions and the complaints process effectively.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in managing at a senior level within a similar environment, managing a fleet of vehicles and people.
  • Proven ability to coordinate human and other resources to meet key objectives and performance targets.
  • Experience in effective multi-agency partnership working.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
