Waste Operations Project Manager

We are seeking a Waste Operations Project Manager to support the management of Recycling and Household Waste Site (RHWS) and Waste Transfer Station (WTS) operations. This role involves providing contract management for waste treatment contracts and leading the development and delivery of waste operational projects and improvements.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support the Team Manager and provide cover in the absence of the Principal Waste Contracts Officer.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of waste operational projects and improvements.
  • Develop and deliver recycling and treatment services, as well as savings initiatives including income generation.
  • Manage and operate waste and related maintenance contracts for RHWS, WTS, waste disposal/treatment, and environmental maintenance.
  • Oversee site provision of operational equipment, legal consents, security systems (such as CCTV), and other maintenance.
  • Monitor compliance at RHWS and WTS sites in accordance with relevant legislation, including health and safety and environmental legislation.
  • Prepare contract documentation, including contract specifications and invitations to tender, in accordance with legislation and County Council procedures.
  • Monitor and manage relevant budgets.
  • Lead on the customer interface and manage customer enquiries.
  • Lead and assist in procurement processes relevant to waste operations and contracts.
  • Manage staff, developing their skills and competencies to support changing priorities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in waste management or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement operational improvements and savings initiatives.
  • Experience in contract management and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including health and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop staff.
