Streetmason Opportunities - Join Our City Highways Team
Location: Leicester
Team: City Highways
Contract: Full-time, Temporary
Hours: 37 per week
Pay: 18 per hour
Job Titles Available:
- Skilled Streetmason
- Streetmason Improver
This is a hands-on role where your work will have a visible and lasting impact on the roads, footpaths, and public spaces across the city. Whether you're experienced or developing your trade skills, this is a great opportunity to be part of a professional and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities (for both roles):
- Construct and maintain roads, pavements, kerbs, and drainage systems
- Lay various paving materials (such as slabs, blocks, and granite setts) to precise line and level
- Operate powered tools, small plant equipment, and site vehicles
- Perform Banksman duties by safely directing vehicle and machinery movement
- Support additional operational services such as traffic management and drainage
- Maintain site vehicles and complete routine paperwork including timesheets
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents and the general public
Additional Role-Specific Requirements:
Skilled Streetmason:
- Proven experience in streetworks, including reading and following plans
- Confident using tools and machinery safely
- Ability to work to high standards with minimal supervision
Streetmason Improver:
- Some experience in groundwork or similar outdoor manual work
- Eagerness to learn and develop new skills
- Able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
