Position Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Digital Print Department Manager to lead our digital printing operations with a proactive and engaged approach. This role combines strategic oversight with on-the-floor involvement, ensuring high-quality output, efficient workflow, and a motivated team. The ideal candidate is both a strong leader and a skilled technician, capable of stepping into production when needed and driving continuous improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the digital print department, including job scheduling, production oversight, and staff supervision.
  • Actively participate in production tasks when necessary-operating digital presses, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring job completion.
  • Ensure all print jobs meet quality standards and client specifications through close monitoring and quality control.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of digital press operators and support staff.
  • Maintain digital print equipment (e.g., HP Indigo, Xerox, Canon, Ricoh), and coordinate preventative maintenance and service calls.
  • Drive efficiency and process improvements to reduce waste, improve turnaround times, and optimize workflow.
  • Monitor inventory levels for paper, ink, and consumables; manage ordering and vendor relationships.
  • Enforce safety and compliance protocols in alignment with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyse production data and prepare regular performance and productivity reports.
  • Stay informed on industry developments and recommend new tools or technology upgrades.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Printing Technology, Graphic Communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years in a digital print environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with digital print technologies and finishing equipment.
  • Solid understanding of colour management, RIP workflows, and digital prepress processes.
  • Proficient with print production software and familiar with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and lead by example.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with variable data printing (VDP), web-to-print systems, and workflow automation.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma practices.
  • Familiarity with MIS/ERP systems used in print production environments.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, on-site position with occasional overtime or weekend work based on production needs.
  • Hands-on role requiring physical activity including standing, lifting, and operating machinery.
