Children in Need Social Worker (Level 3 - Grade 9)
Location: Leicester City Council – Halford House
Team: Children in Need (CIN)
Hours: Full-time (37 hours/week), Monday–Thursday 08:30–17:00, Friday 08:30–16:30
Flexible Options: 9-day fortnight available | Part-time considered (full-time preferred)
Relocation Package: Standard package available (must relocate within 20 miles of the Clock Tower)
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our Children in Need team at Leicester City Council. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner with strong experience in child protection, child in need, and court work.
You must have at least 2–3 years' experience working within CIN, CP, and care proceedings. Court-based experience is essential, as the role will involve managing complex cases, preparing for proceedings, and working with multi-agency teams to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
The Team & Support Structure
You’ll be joining a supportive and well-structured service comprising:
- 2 Service Managers
- 8 Team Managers
- Qualified Social Workers reporting into Team Managers
- Advanced Practitioners who provide support as needed
Average caseloads are around 20 children, and many cases involve multi-sibling families or multi-generational households.

- Driving is essential, this is a community-based role and there is a central car user scheme. You can claim mileage and parking expenses for visits (not for commuting to the office).
- Learning & Development, Leicester City offers excellent progression opportunities, particularly into Advanced Practitioner and Team Manager roles, which are recruited internally only.
- Hybrid Working, Based primarily at Halford House, with only 1–2 office days per week.
- Duty/On-call, You’ll be on a rota system for duty, approximately once a month. Some overtime may be required on duty weeks.
