About the School

Simply Education are recruiting on behalf of a outstanding independent day school I based in Lancashire Who are looking for a Deputy Head Teacher to join then from January 2026.

The school provides specialist education for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. We are committed to delivering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Deputy Headteacher to work closely with the Headteacher to drive the school's strategic vision. This role will involve leading and managing staff, deputising for the Headteacher both on and off site, and occasionally undertaking the professional duties of a class teacher.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Headteacher and take overall responsibility for the school in their absence.
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and staff training.
  • Lead positive relationship and engagement strategies to foster a safe and inclusive school culture.
  • Oversee whole-school pastoral care and personal development, implementing interventions that generate measurable improvements.
  • Support the pastoral team in areas such as attendance, family engagement, and medicine administration.
  • Ensure staff fulfil their organisational responsibilities effectively.
  • Support the Headteacher in communicating and implementing the school's vision and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to quality assurance across all school activities and provide evidence-based overviews of key school issues.
  • Lead specific areas of responsibility within the wider leadership and management team.

Skills and Experience:


The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in a senior leadership role within education.
  • At least 5 years of proven success in teaching, ideally within a special needs environment.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or Autism is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of positive behaviour management at a whole-school level.
  • Experience as a Deputy or Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Understanding of formal, semi-formal, and informal curricula.
  • Experience leading and managing diverse teams effectively.
  • Experience engaging with the wider community and/or school governance structures.
  • Proven ability to turn policy into effective practice and to lead initiatives that raise standards across the school.
